Solar water wells

In areas where ground water is so scarce, sometimes the only solution is to build environmentally-friendly and sustainable solar powered electric pumps

Across parts of Uganda, a standard hand pump or basic water well is often not enough to provide clean and usable water for communities. In many areas, water levels are extremely low, or the only reliable water source lies too far underground for traditional methods to reach. This makes it difficult for families to access safe water for daily needs such as drinking, cooking and hygiene.

In such locations, the only practical option is to drill a deep well and install a system strong enough to extract water efficiently. However, using a diesel generator to power the pump is costly, requires continuous fuel, and demands frequent maintenance. For poor and rural communities, these ongoing expenses are simply not sustainable.

Other ways to help?

Although the initial installation cost of a solar well is higher, it quickly becomes a cost-efficient and reliable source of water. Solar wells can extract water multiple times a day at little to no ongoing cost, providing long-term access to safe, clean water for entire communities. This creates a lasting impact that families can depend on for years to come.
